About SHL Farms

SHL Farms began as an extension of Summerhill Landscapes and the vision of its founder, Declan Blackmore. Raised on a farm in his native Ireland, Declan started Summerhill in 1993 with the mission of building and maintaining extraordinary landscapes that were informed by a sensibility ingrained in him from his days on the farm in Kilkenny. The vital importance of being a steward of the land that provides for us is the essence of our approach to growing trees.

The establishment of SHL Farms in 2012 is a return to his roots as a farmer. Spread across the eastern reaches of Long Island, SHL Farms is comprised of three farm sites in East Hampton, Southampton, and Riverhead, totaling 250 acres. It is on these fields that we apply the lessons we’ve learned from over thirty years of practicing fine horticulture to grow and nurture a variety of trees across our acreage.

Our aim is to provide a diversity of plant material to match the diversity of our clientele, ranging from salt tolerant shrubs to be planted on the oceanfront to tightly clipped formal trees in the European tradition.
